Filing USAA Claims

Filing USAA claims is a fairly quick and easy process with all the innovations they've put into place for their members.

If you are a member of the USAA auto insurance company then you already know that they're one of the leading insurers in the United States.

They have a pretty good reputation for excellent customer service and a genuine desire to provide top notch services for all of their consumers.

With that in mind, it's no great surprise that if you ever have to file a USAA insurance claim, you have the most up-to-date options available to you.

If you're still "old fashioned" like me, you can call in your accident claim and speak to a person "live" just like in the old days. :)

Prefer to handle things online? No problem. You can go directly to their site and download a USAA claims form and submit your claim online.

For those with the latest technology at their fingerprints, USAA even has a mobile app. (Don't laugh, but I'm one of those dinosaurs who has never used an "app" before.)

The USAA mobile app does more than simply help you file your USAA claims. It gives you great tips that you can use right at the scene of the accident to record all the details while everything is fresh in your mind.

It can even help the roadside assistance service personnel find you so that they can give you a tow if needed. Maybe I'll have to get myself one of those newfangled gadgets after all! :)

Of course, once your claim is in the hands of an adjuster, you can track the progress of your claim online 24/7, so the convenience factor is part of the equation.

Tips For Making A Successful USAA Insurance Claim

There are certain things YOU can do to help ensure that any claim you make is ruled in your favor and paid out quickly and fully. The insurance adjuster has to make judgement calls when the don't have adequate facts.

It's your job to make sure that you provide as much detail as possible and that fact-finding mission starts the moment you have an accident.

  • Once you get yourself and your vehicle (when possible) to safety, call 911 to report the accident to the police and wait for them to arrive.
  • If you are uninjured, it's time to get to work. Start gathering as much information as you can from other drivers and passengers involved in the accident as well as any available witnesses. (names, addresses, phone numbers, drivers license number, insurance details)
  • Don't apologize or admit fault (even if you think you may be partially to blame). This may be difficult for you to do because it may be a natural instinct. Unfortunately, anything you say CAN and probably WILL be used against you in making a claim. ;)
  • Most people have a cell phone these days. Use yours to take photos of the vehicles and the surrounding area. If you don't happen to have a camera phone, it's a good idea to keep a disposable camera in your glove box "just in case."
  • Get a copy of the police report as soon as possible. You'll want to have it on hand for your claims adjuster.
  • Report the accident to USAA right away so that they can get things in motion asap to help you get your vehicle towed, repaired, etc, quickly.

Following these basic tips should help you have much greater success when filing your USAA claims for any car accident you might be involved in. Of course, I hope you manage to avoid accidents entirely! :)
