There's a lot that I love about the Good Neighbor Sam concept.
Although I haven't found any documentation to prove it, I can't help but assume that the Good Sam RV Club was founded on the Biblical principle of the good Samaritan.
The story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10 is one of my favorite Bible stories and I've taught it countless times over the past 30 years. Are you familiar with it?
If not, let me give you a brief summary...
Jesus said, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. "
He was then asked the question, "And who is my neighbour?"
In response to this question, Jesus told a story about a man who was traveling between Jerusalem and Jericho. Along the journey he was attacked by thieves, robbed, and left for dead on the side of the road.
Along came first a priest, and then a Levite, but neither of them stopped to help the poor man.
Finally, a Samaritan man came along and helped the stranger, using his own resources to bring him to the nearest inn and get him the help he needed.
When Jesus finished telling story of the Good Samaritan, Jesus asked the man, "Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?"
To which he responded, "He that shewed mercy on him."
Jesus' final instruction was, "Go, and do thou likewise."
What does this all have to do with the Good Sam Clubs? I'm glad you asked!
Now that you know the story of the Good Samaritan, you can probably understand why I think that's where the "Good Neighbor Sam" concept seems to be linked to the Good Sam RV Club and its services.
Good Sam Clubs are are all over the US and Canada and provide numerous safeguards and services for travelers.
The whole premise of Good Sam is to provide services for travelers, much like the Good Samaritan did. It's a program that is well worth being part of when you take to the road. Become part of the Good Neighbor Sam Club!
