Roadside assistance programs don't really get the recognition they deserve, in my opinion.
Auto
insurance is a requirement for all drivers, and it sure comes in handy
when you need it. But roadside assistance is an optional service than
many drivers never consider until it's too late.
I have to
admit that I've been one of those drivers. :) In my younger years I
never worried about being part of an Ohio auto club.
I know
how to change a tire, and that was the only obstacle I really
considered as a possible breakdown. If anything more serious occurred, I
knew I could call my dad or a friend if necessary.
I guess I really changed my mind about the value of Roadside Assistance Programs when I got married and moved away.
My parents were getting older and my concern for them inspired me to take a good look at the roadside assistance companies servicing their region.
It turned out that AAA had an Akron auto club that was perfect for my mom and dad's needs.
I
purchased an annual package for them that covered either of them in any
vehicle they happened to be driving or riding in as a passenger.
Believe it or not, the cost for that peace of mind (for both me and them), was less than $100 per year. Money well spent!
If you are going to spend your money on a roadside assistant service,
you want to make sure that you are dealing with a company that is
reliable and will actually be there when you need them.
My #1 pick of all the roadside assistance companies is most definitely the Good Sam Club. Most people only think of the Good Sam club in relation to their RV roadside assistance, which is second to none, but Good Sam offers roadside assistance services to all drivers, not just RV owners.
They
give incredible value for money, in my view, with both their auto and
RV programs. They provide a lot of benefits for a small annual fee.
Here are some of their many services included:
...and
more. And that's just for the regular auto roadside assistant
services. For just a few dollars more per year, you can have your RV
covered with all "the works" included.
You really won't find a better roadside assistance program, so I would suggest you check out the Good Sam Club before you make your final choice. They've got my tick of approval.
Another great option when considering the best roadside service for you and your family's needs is the Allstate Motor Club.
You're probably familiar with Allstate primarily in relation to car insurance, but they DO offer roadside assistance as well.
Having
had a good look at this program to see what they offer and how they
compare to the other well known auto clubs, they measure up pretty well.
First
of all, their price point is similar. Secondly, they offer the same
types of services so you can rely on them to come riding to your rescue
in your time of need.
Of course, Allstate offers emergency service in all 50 US States. If you have a spouse or another adult licensed driver living in your home, they can be included on your membership at no extra charge.
In fact, if you've got licensed teens between the ages of 16-18, they are also covered at no additional cost. All in all, Allstate is a pretty good option and rates up there with the best of them.
Another great option among roadside assistance companies is the AAA auto
club. There are approximately 41 AAA Motor Clubs across the United
States.
The AAA Roadside Assistance is probably the most
well known roadside assistant services in the USA. They've been around
for decades and the phrase "call AAA" is almost a catch phrase for
roadside service.
As I mentioned earlier, I've purchased AAA
membership for family members in the past because I wanted to be sure
they had help should they need it. It's a terrible feeling to be
stranded on the side of the road and I particularly didn't want my aging
parents to be in that predicament.
Even though I said Good
Sam is my favorite roadside assistance program, I think AAA motor club
is excellent value for money, too.
Read more about the available AAA Motor Club services.
Before
I move on to the next popular motor club, I wanted to mention a new
alternative to AAA that I learned about recently. It's called the Better World Club, and they are an eco-friendly company. So, if "going green" is dear to your heart, definitely check them out.
The AARP Roadside Assistance service is really provided by Allstate
roadside assistance. From what I understand, AARP partnered up with
Allstate so that they could provide their members with an affordable and
reliable roadside assistant plan.
The only catch is that
this particular service is only available to AARP members. If you are
over 50, definitely consider joining AARP Hartford because of all the many benefits you'll receive besides being eligible for their Allstate roadside assistance partnership.
Well, those are my top choices when it comes to roadside assistance
companies in the US and Canada. You really can't go wrong by choosing
from the most reputable roadside assistance programs to rely on when
you're in a tough spot.
Safe Driving!
