I've got a story to tell you today about the Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Company.
If you've been around here long, you know I don't hold back when it comes to dishing the dirt on auto insurance companies and their dodgy dealings toward hard working consumers.
Nothing gets under my skin more than seeing big businesses treat the little guy in an unjust way (and get away with it) when the little guy can't do a thing about it.
Having said that, I do try to give credit where credit is due. Today, IN Farm Bureau is due a little credit and I want to devote this page to giving it to them. :)
So, here's the story...
I'm out of the country a lot (as my husband and I serve as missionaries in Australia for most of the year), and I let my mother-in-law ("mom") drive my car in my absence.
I've got a Chrysler 300M, and having it driven regularly is a big help, so it's a win-win situation.
On Monday, my mom was in a minor collision at an intersection just a few blocks from her house. This was her very first accident in her nearly 60 years of driving (that alone is pretty impressive!).
It was a 4-way stop and she had stopped and entered the intersection first and then was hit in the back passenger door and spun around by a driver entering the intersection from her right.
The poor dear was shook up, but thankfully no one was hurt. Thankfully, too, the accident was not her fault (i.e. my fault).
My mother called my insurance broker the next day and let her know what happened. The broker got on it immediately (kudos to my friends at Pinnacle Insurance in Crown Point, IN). They contacted my insurance carrier (Selective Insurance - more about them here) and we received an email from them to let us know they were aware of the situation and would be pursuing our claim on our behalf.
Having had some experience in dealing with reluctant insurance companies who try to wriggle out of paying on claims, I was prepared for some resistance.
I'm SO VERY PLEASED to report that within two days, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance (the other driver's company) had sent out their insurance adjuster and submitted their findings to us. They were completely fair, without a wriggle in sight! ;)
Believe it or not, the check for our claim arrived already and is in the bank. How's that for service? Accident on Monday; compensation in the bank by Saturday.
I guess you can see why Indiana Farm Bureau is currently in my good books!
Most people hate spending money on auto insurance. But if you have to spend the money, you want to be sure you are getting the best deal possible.
You expect good customer service, prompt attention to claims, and help when you need it. Are you getting this from your automobile insurance provider?
Praise or punish your insurance company here. Your input will be a help to future insurance consumers who want honest opinions rather than the company line. Go ahead, rant or rave!
