Geico Is A Rip-Off!

by Sharon
(Brandenburg KY)

I think Geico is a rip-off!

I moved from Maryland to Kentucky and my insurance jumped over 25%. That means that if I stay with Geico I'll be paying almost $1,200 per year.

Oh yeah, I've been driving for over 30 years and it's been over 15 years since I had any type of accident.

I have all of the safety devices for my car so I have no idea why my insurance continually goes up every new renewal other than greed.

That stupid little gecho has gotta go and this was the last straw that convinced me to cut my loses. After 10+ years, I'm ready to kick Geico to the curb!

Hi Sharon,

I feel your pain! Insurance rates can fluctuate greatly depending on the location of the insured. I believe they calculate the premiums from the claims statistics of the area in the past.

I would have thought that Kentucky rates would be less than Maryland, rather than more - unless the crime/vandalism rate was higher in your new location.

$1200 per year sounds outrageous to me, unless you are driving something really high end. My parents in Ohio are only paying 1/3 of that for comprehensive coverage!

Well, I would certainly recommend getting some free online quotes to see if someone else could offer you a much better deal than Geico.

Let me know how it turns out, what kind of savings you are able to get and who you end up deciding on when you say "so long" to Geico.

Safe Driving!

Ins. Companies Gouging the American People
by: Anonymous

Promises! Promises!

My recent renewal with Geico was the nightmare from HELL!, Not only
did Geico gouge me for a ticket on my DMV record, they raped me for
having a lapse time in renewing my policy. This is after spending the
previous month trying to resolve a ticket matter that had been placed
inaccurately. Geico refused to hear or understand what the previous
agents had advised me. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do so in a
timely manner and the fact was Geico had overcharged me on my premium
based on this inaccurate data. Geico as with many corporate American
Companies has allowed greed and corruption in the insurance business
to continue gouging the California people. I want NO! Association with such a
company, and beware I will continue to inform family & friends of this
incident and the structure of the company where the agent on the line
is as high up of authority you'll ever have the right to speak to. As
with most corrupted companies, gov't , there is vitually NO
Transparency!

Drop Geico and Shop Around!
by: Angie

You have my sincere sympathies. If you don't have it in writing, you can't ever prove that someone you spoke to previously advised you incorrectly, etc. Some of these insurance companies will show no mercy.

On the other hand, you can definitely find some agents and companies who do try to make things right. In spite of the company line, they still have to employ humans with emotions and some are quite kind still.

I'd say to drop Geico and shop around for another company in your area who can do a better deal for you.

Check out the free quote services on our insurance quotes page and see if you can't find someone who will treat you better.

You can always get your money back from Geico if you switch horses mid race. I would/do in a heartbeat if they don't provide the service I expect.

Run From Geico!
by: Anonymous

I was with Geico for over 10 years and thought I was getting a good deal. Then my boyfriend told me that he was carrying more insurance on his newer car for less money! He is also a Geico customer.

We are the same age, live at the same address and have the same clean driving record. The kicker was when I bough a new car and sold him mine. He was quoted a third of what I was paying! Not only that, but they wanted to charge me almost $2000 more a year to insure my new car than Progressive wanted. And, I got twice as much coverage with the Progressive deal!

Geico rips off long term, loyal cstomers. The worst kind of greed!
