Drivers Ed As A Teen
Remembering Drivers Ed As A Teen...
Well, it's been many years since I took driver's ed as a teen (won't say how many), but I still remember the class.
Our Drivers Education class was taught by one of the male gym teachers (one of the teachers who was really old and actually pretty out of shape, so we all found it funny that he was teaching gym).
Anyway, he seemed to have an agenda and took every opportunity to remind us of the dangers of drinking and driving. He would mention it several times each class.
He also kept repeating how much of a "grave responsibility" driving was and the importance of following all laws perfectly.
He was actually a pretty funny guy and I did learn a lot and still remember several rules today (like stopping and counting to 5 at each stop sign or before turning right on red).
Thanks for sharing your Drivers Ed experience. Yes, I guess most of us took Drivers Ed as a teen, and probably didn't appreciate it as much as we should have at the time.
These days we are encouraged to take drivers education refresher classes to get better rates on our car insurance.
I have a pretty good inkling that most of us would benefit a lot more now that we are "older and wiser" than we did when we were so young.
It's amazing what age and experience can do to sober us up a bit to the realities and dangers of poor or reckless driving.
It's so sad to hear of the accidents that are caused each year by distractions from cell phones, texting, etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if those topics are getting a lot more "classroom time" now than the drink driving lectures we sat through as teens.
They are both relevant, of course, but youth always has a feeling of invincibility! :)
Thanks again for your contribution.Safe Driving!
