Affordable Auto Insurance

affordable auto insurance

We all want affordable auto insurance, but it is sometimes difficult to know what to look for and how to find the best prices.

There are a few little tips I can give you that may help you in your quest for affordable car insurance.

You may find some of these suggestions to be basic, common sense. Really, they are. But too many times we overlook the obvious and then miss out.

  1. Keep your record clean. If you have not had any accidents or moving violations for several years, sometimes as little as three, you are much more likely to be able to get a cheaper auto insurance quote.

It's starting to become more and more popular for insurance companies to offer you a rebate or bonus check (money back) each year when you don't file any claims. This is true in both the US and Australia, so it is worth checking into it with the company you are considering.

  2. Maintain good credit. Believe it or not, your credit history can affect your auto insurance premiums. In some states insurance companies are allowed to consider your insurance score when determining your rates.

You can still get car insurance with bad credit, but it will cost more. By maintaining good credit, you will be eligible for more affordable insurance rates.

  3. Ask for Special Discounts. Different companies offer various discounts based on assorted criteria, such as being a good student, taking a defensive driver course, buying an economy car, being equipped with anti-lock brakes or anti-theft devices and air bags, to name a few.

Unfortunately, not all companies will automatically ask you if you qualify, so YOU need to ask THEM. Put your pride aside and ASK. It's more money in your own pocket in the long run.

  4. Choose Higher Deductibles. If you are willing to pay a higher deductible in the event of a covered accident, you will be able to get more affordable car insurance. Consider what is the most you could handle in such an event, and save yourself some money now.

I do suggest that, if at all possible, you set aside the amount of your deductible in a special savings account so that you DO have it should you need it. If not, it's like a little nest egg for you that you can use for something special down the road.

  5. Compare different Companies. Shop around for the best deal. You can do an auto insurance comparison and select from among the cheapest insurance quotes you get. You can even save running around time by getting online quotes. Just be sure to stick with reputable companies. That link offers some good ones.

These are just some of the things that allow agencies and brokers to offer more affordable auto insurance quotes. Do take advantage of every single one you can qualify for.
